Brecon Beacons National Park

A beautiful area of countryside, Brecon Beacons National Park has so much for you to explore and enjoy. Make the most of the great outdoors when you’re in South Wales and try one of the many activities in the national park. Go on a long walk or bike ride on one of the many trails, explore caves, stargaze, go fishing, canoe or paddleboard on one of the many lakes in the park or go horseback riding.

Cardiff

Cardiff is the capital of Wales, the largest city in Wales and the 11th largest in the UK. The city has lots for you to see and do. From magnificent castles and the world-famous Principality Stadium to independent shops, Highstreet stores and plenty of restaurants and bars, there is something for everyone in Cardiff.

Llangennith Beach

For a day trip or dog walk on the beach, Llangennith beach is a lovely beach on the west of the Gower Penisula. The beach is dog-friendly, great for families and popular for watersports. Backed by dunes and with a good tide for surfing, this is a fab beach to visit in summer.

Glamorgan Heritage Coast

South Wales has a beautiful coastline for you to explore. Stretching 14 miles, the Glamorgan Heritage Coast is a must for those who love the great outdoors, the coast and stunning views. With dramatic cliffs, famous caves, sandy beaches and market towns, there is plenty for you to discover on the coast.

Three Cliffs Bay

Make sure you have your camera ready when you visit Three Cliffs Bay. Located on the south coast of the Gower Peninsula, the bay offers visitors a stunning shoreline, dunes and cliffs. One of the most beautiful beaches around, you can enjoy long walks with your family and dog.

Big Pit National Museum

Enjoy a day out with your family and learn more about the history of the coal industry in South Wales. Explore a real coal mine, walk underground, follow a tour guide and stop at the Miner’s Canteen or coffee shop for lunch before you leave.

Brecon Mountain Railway

Located in the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Brecon Mountain Railway is a great way to see the beautiful countryside. Step onboard a steam train and ride alongside the Pontsticill reservoirs and surrounding rural area. There are plenty of walking trails for you to explore further on foot before returning to the main station at Pant.

National Showcaves Centre for Wales

One of the most popular attractions in Wales, the National Showcaves Centre for Wales is a must-visit. Explore 3 underground caves; Dan yr Ogof Cave, Cathedral Cave and Bone Cave which have twisted passageways and unique underground experiences. There is also the world’s largest collection of dinosaur models, 2 children’s play areas, farmyard area, café and shop. This is a great day out for the whole family when on holiday in South Wales.

Worm’s Head

Worm’s Head is a tidal island which can be difficult to access but worth a try. The Rhossili and Worms Head walk from Gower provides visitors with stunning views of Rhosili Bay from the secluded tidal island. Make sure you plan the walk carefully to ensure safe access to and from the island.

Caerphilly Castle

A trip to Caerphilly would not be complete without seeing and/or visiting the Caerphilly Castle. This stunning castle is surrounded by two lakes and in the middle of the town so you can’t miss it! The castle dominates the skyline and stands amongst 30 acres of land. Open to visitors, you can explore the grounds, learn about the history of the castle and enjoy stunning views across the Welsh countryside.
